Bio

Sreevatsan leads investigations into molecular pathogenesis of zoonotic disease. He uses a highly integrated interdisciplinary strategy employing state-of-the-art genomics and functional genomics and relevant model systems to study ecology and molecular evolution of infectious agents and their modulation in host and environmental niches. His scientific inquiry focuses on worlds’ greatest infectious diseases such as those caused by mycobacteria, prions, and influenza A. His work provides scientific bases for improved disease surveillance and mitigation through development of improved diagnostic tests and methods for microbial identification/tracking, as well as developing new generations of antimicrobial vaccines and therapeutics.
