Bio

I am a veterinarian and associate professor for Washington State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. I am the director of the WSU Shelter Medicine program based at Seattle Humane where I guide 4th year veterinary students through hands-on training in shelter medicine, surgery and community outreach.  I also lead the One Health Clinic veterinary team, a partnership with the University of Washington that provides integrated medical care to people and their pets while allowing UW and WSU students to collaborate inter-professionally.  We have created a toolkit for implementing integrated healthcare and are currently mentoring several pilot site clinics across North America. I received the Washington State Veterinary Medical Association (WSVMA) 2020 WSU Faculty Member of the Year Award and University of Wisconsin’s School of Veterinary Medicine Young Alumni Award in 2021. I am also engaged with the WSVMA as President of the Board of Trustees of the Washington State Animal Health Foundation.  We manage a charitable fund as an access to care resource for WA veterinarians called the Vets Helping Pets Fund.

My passion is advocating for and working towards access to veterinary care for vulnerable populations and integrating the spectrum of care into DVM education.  Outside of work, I love spending time outside as a sailor, hiker, biker and skier and quality time with my wife, my orange tabby cats and a silly "Texas special" doodle named Harry.
