Dr. Canty serves as the CVM’s Director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and while at NC State she was involved in the Black Student Board and National Pan-Hellenic Council. She joined the Mu Xi Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority during her time at NCUS. She is currently completing her PhD in Curriculum Studies from DePaul University, her dissertation topic focuses on the experiences of Black Sorority women at Predominantly White Institutions. She received her MS in College Student Personnel from Western Illinois University and Ph.D. in Curriculum Students from DePaul University, her dissertation topic focused on the experiences of Black Sorority women at Predominantly White Institutions by examining how these organizations help to build community that led to greater belonging and the whole of university administrations, faculty, and staff in supporting Black women at PWIs. Her previous experience includes working in higher education and with national fraternities in conduct, educational programming, assessment, diversity and inclusion, and equitable education policy. Ashlee is passionate about creating communities that provide belonging to students, faculty, and staff and understanding intersecting identities to create inclusive environments on college campuses and in the workplace. She is a Winston Salem native, and enjoys reading, cooking, spending time with her family, friends, and her labradoodle, Kennedy.
